Kenneth Oppel surpasses one million books sold in Canada
TORONTO –HarperCollinsCanada announced today that bestselling children’s author Kenneth Oppel has surpassed sales of one million books, in Canada, across his body of work.
Kenneth Oppel is the Governor General’s Award–winning author of the acclaimed Airborn trilogy and the Silverwing saga, as well as Half Brother, winner of both the Canadian Library Association Young Adult Book Award and the Canadian Library Association Book of the Year for Children; This Dark Endeavour and its sequel, Such Wicked Intent; and his most recent middle-grade novel, The Boundless. He has also written a number of picture books, chapter books, and one novel for adults—The Devil’s Curse.
“I wanted to be a writer from the age of thirteen, but never dared imagine that one day I’d have so many readers in my own country. It’s incredible, and I feel very fortunate indeed!” said Kenneth Oppel.
“HarperCollins is so proud to have published twenty-three of Ken's books over a period of seventeen years,” said Iris Tupholme, Vice President, Executive Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief at HarperCollinsCanada. “Our first book together was the brilliant Silverwing, which grew from a stand-alone novel to a series and began Ken's remarkable international career. With his new novel, The Boundless, Ken shows again that he is a storyteller of the highest order, whose work appeals to a broad range of readers both in Canada and around the world.”
2014 also marks the tenth year his iconic novel Airborn has been in print.
