Leanne Toshiko Simpson Books & Biography

LEANNE TOSHIKO SIMPSON is a mixed-race Yonsei writer and psychiatric survivor from Toronto. After being diagnosed with bipolar disorder at seventeen, she spent years seeking a balance between her writing and wellness. Nominated for the Journey Prize in 2019, she holds an MFA from the University of Guelph and is currently completing a doctorate in social justice education at the University of Toronto. Since her hospitalization, Simpson has returned to teach creative writing in universities, psychiatric wards and cultural centres across the city.
