Biography

Charisma Standley, 23 years of age, is a Nigeria-based artist who is just starting out her career and studying as a visual development artist in animation. She also freelances as a children’s book illustrator. Charisma began her art journey in 2019 during her internship in engineering, made the switch and has been studying and working as an artist ever since. Common themes you would find in her work include bold colours and vibrant characters. She seeks to explore and create more visually appealing worlds as the years go by.

The Drum Maker and the Aziza is set in a place still unknown to most of world and it counters the stereotype that Africa has no fairy tales. She believes this book will resonate with many of its readers because it gives what most of us seem to lack when we are stuck at dead ends – a sense of hope.
