Danielle Leaf thinks shes helping out a frienduntil she is
abducted and imprisoned in remote rural India. Her escape is only the beginning
of a wild ride. Danielle is swept up in a secret war between anti-corporate
activists and a transnational mining company that is poisoning thousands of
Third World farmers. In a dizzying world of whirlwind romance on the Goa coast,
bloody street battles in Paris, shadowy computer hackers and mysterious
benefactors, the line between right and wrong becomes increasingly blurred.
Danielle discovers that both sides of this war hide terrible secretsand are
willing to kill to protect them.
Award-winning author Jon Evans returns with new heroes and a
compulsive, fast-paced story that digs into issues of corporate exploitation and
the extreme edge of antiglobalization activism. Invisible Armies is Cold
War suspense for the modern age, a thriller that looks behind the power of
protests and the politics of big business, written by a truly international
talent.

Critical Praise for
Invisible Armies
"[Evans's] detailed descriptions, whether of the heat and smells of an Indian market or the rhythm of a Parisian neighbourhood, bring the settings to life. With some likeable characters, some terrifying ones, and a fantastic plot, Invisible Armies should conquer new readers and please old fans."
Quill & Quire
"A fast-paced politically engaging thriller."
Globe and Mail
"Thought-provoking. . . . Invisible Armies is an intriguing, pacy read and Mr Evans shows great potential."
The Economist
"Evans has created a new genre, the travelogue as fast-paced action thriller. Invisible Armies is certainly fun, with its quirky characters and lively plot, but it is also a smart and thoughtful look at the politics of activism, the pervasive power of big business and the global street war that is being waged between the two."
Calgary Herald
"An unpredictable, frightening thriller. . . .There's a kind of appealing chaos theory to Evans' books, which tend to unfold in ways surprising to veteran thriller readers who think they can figure out where things are going. GRADE: A."
The Province (Vancouver)
"Evans has created a remarkable novel in this tale of corporate skulduggery and high-tech warfare. [Invisible Armies] will keep you turning the pages until the stunning climax is reached."
The West Australian
"Invisible Armies is an adrenalin rush from start to finish and Evans has Andrew Pyper's ability to make great characters."
Kitchener-Waterloo Record
"For his third international thriller Evans has taken a pathway similar to that of The Constant Gardener: a mix of industrial espionage, a series of murders, cameras that track every move of every person of interest, multinationals more powerful than many small countries, it offers seemingly everything."
Brisbane Courier-Mail (Australia)
"An action-based thriller for conspiracy buffs . . . a world in which black is seldom black and white is never white."
Sherbrooke Record
"Invisible Armies is a politically motivated thriller full of page turning, unpredictable terror.... Evans is thought provoking without preaching and detailed without slowing the pace."
Hamilton Spectator
Reader Reviews from First Look
Tireless entertainment from beginning to end, and not surprisingly so considering the exotic locations where the story takes place, the clever plot that touches on modern concerns such as globalization, capitalism and avant-garde technology, and the many well-calculated cloak and dagger twists peppered throughout. I recommend Jon Evans’ Invisible Armies to anyone who enjoys an action-packed and intelligent read.

I could not put this book down!!! It never grew stale. It kept me up well into the night. Danielle Leaf is first introduced as a spoiled little rich girl who can't figure out what she wants to do with her life. As the story unfolds however, she becomes stronger, and more determined in her goal, i.e. bringing about the down fall of the maniacal Shadbold and his evil minions. Danielle Leaf becomes a superhero to rival the likes of Lara Croft. Bravo!!!!
Anastasia (Thronhill, ON)
Constant action, interesting characters, and a good story with enough surprises to keep me reading well past my bedtime. Evans has a knack for describing locations that made it very easy to visualize places I''ve never been. I also appreciated the peek inside DefCon. An entertaining book that fans of the genre and those new to it are sure to enjoy.

A real page-turner! Just when you think you've seen the last of the excitement...there's more!!!
Plot twists and turns galore, this was a tiring book - it kept me up WAY too late three nights in a row!

What an amazing book. I thoroughly enjoyed this one from start to finish, and was completely captivated from the first few pages.
I am looking forward to reading more of Jon Evans books, as this is the first one of his that I have read, though I will look for more in the future.

Invisible Armies is a well written, action packed book.
It’s the story of Danielle Leaf a young woman who is trying to find her place in the world. During a stay in a yoga retreat in India she is asked to deliver a passport, this gets Danielle mixed up in a tangle of espionage and computer hackers Her favor for a friend starts an entanglement into a story that seems highly credible in today’s world of advanced technology. Invisible Armies is a great book that keep me wanting to read more.
Jennifer (Ste. Marguerite-Esterel, QC)
An excellent book. Well researched and with believable characters. Couldn't put it down. I find it refreshing that Mr. Evans didn't go with your spy vs. spy genre.
Al (Victoria, NF)
Jon Evans’ third novel, Invisible Armies, is a thought-provoking thriller that takes the reader on an exhilarating adventure across three continents....
Detailed descriptions of the exotic locales provide a colourful background to a modern fast-paced story about corporate power, high-tech Internet hacking, and the dark side of the anti-globalization movement.
David (Oshawa, ON)
This book is a true thriller. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire way through. I had a hard time putting it down.
